26 Top Diagnostic Tests for Your Wellbeing

In addition to your regularly scheduled physical exam, there are situations where you may need additional diagnostic testing. At Hillandale Primary Care & Laser Center, we can arrange for you to schedule any necessary testing either at our Center or with other diagnostic facilities.
What is Diagnostic Testing?
The medical community uses diagnostic testing to detect, confirm, or rule out the presence of a disease or medical condition. These tests are used for a variety of reasons to:
- screen for conditions in increased risk people
- diagnose a disorder
- evaluate a disorder to plan a treatment
- monitor the response and effects of a specific treatment
- monitor disease progression.
A large number of specialized tests are widely available for particular disorders or group of related disorders.
Tests can be used for more than a single purpose. For example, a blood test could reveal that a person has too few red blood cells, which could be anemia. This same blood test may be repeated after anemia treatment to determine whether the number of red blood cells has returned to normal.
In some cases, a disorder can be treated at the same time a diagnostic test is being performed. For example, when colonoscopy (examination of the inside of the large intestine with a flexible viewing tube) detects growths (polyps), the polyps can be removed before the colonoscopy is completed.
